This awkward moment, so different and so... new

Is this what college is supposed to be like, or am I just so adept at being awkward that I attract these kinds of situations into my life?

Yeah. Long story.

I have a friend here named Jono. He is a sweetheart, and he's fun, and hilarious, and a really cool guy. Also 19, skinny, and effeminate. It's pretty obvious, even to those of us with no "gaydar" whatsoever, that he's gay. But he's not out. Now, he's told some people in confidence, and some in less confidence. He told Heather, who told me, and when he figured out that I knew he admitted he had hoped she'd tell all the internationals because he knew we'd be cool with it.

Anyway, Monday night: we went to Lava, as usual. Heather, not thinking very straight, bet our friend Fred a hundred pounds that Jono is gay. There are two reasons: one, she thought Fred knew; two, she thought it was a sure thing. It's obviously not a nice bet to make (which she realized only too late), but the bet was made and a hundred pounds were on the line. Meanwhile, no one knew about this bet.

By the end of the night... well, let's be honest, we were all pretty drunk. I had been hanging out with Jono most of the night talking about boys (how classic) and as we were walking home, suddenly Fred comes up and says "Jono, I made a bet with Heather that you're straight. Come on, don't let me down!"

Jono was shocked, and of course didn't want to let Heather win the bet (not even knowing about the money involved), and wasn't ready to tell Fred "well, actually, I'm gay." So he asked what he needed to do to prove he was straight, and of course the simple answer was to make out with a girl. I was standing right next to him, so they started doing what peers do, daring me and egging me on. The hilarity of the situation is that... well... despite the fact that people don't know he's gay, Jono is just one of those friends that you, nor anyone else, would ever be more than friends with. It's not quite like a brother, but almost.

I don't remember exactly what Jono said, but he looked amused, took my hand, and the next thing I knew we were kissing.

This is my life. I can only get action from creepers, assholes, and gay, closeted men.

I know it would be best if he just came out, but I also know how scared he is of losing his friends (even though obviously if they don't like him for who he is they're not really his friends... etc.). Anyway, his path is his own, and nothing's awkward between us. He came into the kitchen the next day and I said "Hey there lover..." His jaw dropped and he went "oh my god I didn't even remember until just now!"

So, now I have that ridiculous story to add to my collection of anecdotes from here.

Also, Tuesday night, we pole-danced. That's right.

Yep.
