Good post! And I agree with you, although you left out the third group of people that write and really shouldn't be writing (cough* Stephanie Myers). You can see this in other creative ventures as well, though. Music-wise, I can listen to Aaron Copeland and the complex music he writes OCCASIONALLY and be impressed with the genius, but I would rather listen to old jazz standards from the same time period over and over. The books you turn to to re-read (unless you are one of the geniuses that are really into that kind of thing) are the stories that move you and entertain, not the ones that torment you and make your brain hurt. :-)
