Small Claims
Jul. 13th, 2010 02:21 pmI forgot to mention on here, but the small claim I filed against the guy who never paid me for editing his novel has gone through, and I received the court date in the mail last week: August 17th. Kind of bad timing, as I'll be GETTING MARRIED that weekend (!), but I'll make it work.
I had hoped maybe that the dude would see how serious I am and finally pay me to avoid going to court, but it doesn't look like he's going to do that. Which gives me even greater hope that he probably isn't going to show up to court, either. So, i'll have a judgement against him, and then it'll just be a matter of collecting.
This whole thing is more about recognizing what my time and effort is worth, rather than the money. I'm not actually spending as much time pursuing the case as I thought I'd have to, so it feels even better. Plus, my mother and I are going to make it fun- we're going to go to Beers of the World and get fancy beverages, and get dinner somewhere (Katie, Pete, any recommendations?). So, I'm not stressed about it.
Yay for standing up for myself though, right? I'm the kind of girl who never complains when the barista messes up my order. So I guess I'm growing :)
