To all my wonderfully creative and talented friends who know anything about building web sites:

How did you learn to do it?

I've taken two classes on web design, but have retained very little of what I was taught. Is there a book, or a site, you might recommend?

I've always considered myself fairly adept at computer stuff, and I think I have an eye for web design when I don't try to force all my ideas into one site (ahem, student site of 2007). I think I'd like to learn this craft better. And maybe make some money from it...

I'd be more than willing to sit down with you and go over stuff. It's really not as difficult as it seems; it just takes a lot of practice to get right. I'm entirely self-taught (started working with HTML back in the glory days of Geocities and Angelfire), and I'm so right-brained that I can't do simple arithmetic, but I was able to learn HTML/CSS with enough determination.

This book (http://www.amazon.com/HTML-XHTML-Sixth-Elizabeth-Castro/dp/0321430840/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1265383037&sr=1-1) really helped me out, and it's one of the most easy-to-understand books that I've seen out there. It's a great investment if you're really serious about learning.

Again, let me know if you ever want to sit down and go over it face-to-face. I'd be more than willing to drive to Buffalo for that. :-)

Thanks! I'm going to look into that book and do some test pages to see what I remember. I'm the same with math, but I've always been pretty good at understanding html/etc. when I put the time/effort into it.

Yeah, I'm the exact same way--I'm self taught, and I was able to create my web design business solely out of that. :) Like Pete, Maddie, if you wants me to go over stuff with you, I'd love to do so~ <3333
